Enjoy a delicious drink and good food

De Stokerij is a restaurant in Ghent with a cosy terrace and great food. We use biological products from Biofresh and work with fair trade products. The quality meat comes from Slagerij Van De Casteele, which has been awarded the best charcutier of Belgium for several years. All preparations are homemade with daily fresh products and the ice cream is artisanally prepared by De IJsster en Talamini.

We pay a lot of attention to people with intolerances (gluten, lactose, nuts, ...) that is why in our menu the allergens are indicated for each dish.

In a restored and unique building in the center of Ghent

The pre-industrial structure (at least the part adjacent to the Grauwpoort) would have already been erected in the 16th century and served as a brewery. It was then known under the name 'Het Sleutelken' ('Little key') and later under the name 'De Drie Sleutels' ('The three keys'). Afterwards, the rear part, with a chimney, was built on and from 1924 onwards the building was owned by the De Schepper family who set up their Bruggeman jenever distillery with brands such as Peterman and Hertekamp.

The production was moved to the buildings next to it and there were large loading bays down the Tichelrei where the service flats now stand. The old distillery was still used as storage space until the company shifted its activities to the current location at Wiedauwkaai in 1987.

The building then did some service as storage space, but people did not agree on a final destination for the building. The breakdown for a new parking was suggested several times. After more than 25 years of vacancy and many detours, it finally got a new destination: De Stokerij!

Enjoy with friends and family
